Prototype for a 10HP CV to MIDI (not MIDI to CV !) converter. Driven by an Arduino NANO, the software will be open source in the true sprit of "DIY" - if you don't like it, change it.

Five front panel CV inputs, plus an optional one on the PCB. All of the panel controls (including "attenuverters") are software controlled, so can be re-assigned to other functions if required.

The 26-pin connector is for a "Waveblaster" compatible MIDI sound generator card (available commercially, a DIY version is under development).

The module is also designed as a general purpose Arduino based development platform, so has optional sound input, PWM sound output (MOZZI compatible), MIDI input.

Got a couple of surface mount components in the wrong size, which enables an interesting comparison:

(L-R: UK penny, US cent, Euro cent)

Note that the Imperial 0603 and 0402 size designations are also valid Metric ones (but two sizes too small).

Second video of MUWZ, covering  the three gate modes, and SETUP mode:

 MUWZ is released!

I’ve been working on this on-and-off for a couple of years, but I’m now happy that it’s ready for release.

MUWZ is a Eurorack interpretation of the Triadex MUSE, a 1972 “computer musical synthesizer” that was invented by Marvin Minsky and Edward Fredkin of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

While the original MUSE documentation refers to it as a “computer”, it is actually a collection of counters, shift registers and simple logic circuits.

MUWZ creates original melodies from simple algorithmic processes. There are no pre-programmed sequences or random sources involved.

The original MUSE was not a "synthesizer" in the current sense of the word, as it only played a fixed level square wave.

MUWZ omits the sound generation and acts as a monophonic sequencer with standard 1 volt per octave CV and GATE outputs, and inputs for external CLOCK and RESET.

With MUWZ, what sound you generate is up to you and your modular synthesizer setup!

MUWZ is capable of creating compositions that include scales, patterns, riffs, call and response, and theme development.

Finally, would I design it again this way if I started from scratch? “Probably not”. It is what it is!

See "Eurorack Modules" pages for more details.Feel free to ask any questions.
